Apr 3, 2008 - Firm Attorneys to Participate In Law Day Functions

Every year on May 1, attorneys and judges around the country celebrate Law Day, a day dedicated to the education of citizens about the principle of government under law.

On May 1, 2008, Gillard, Bauer, Mazrum, Florip, Smigelski & Gulden attorneys Joel E. Bauer and Daniel J. Florip will visit classrooms at Alpena High School to talk to students about how the law affects their daily lives, from issues as noteworthy as polution controls to largely unnoticed regulations such as what the law permits manufacturers to add into our food and water.

Dan Florip will also appear as a guest on WBKB-TV's Insights into Northeast Michigan hosted by Anna Bulszewicz to talk about Law Day. The program will air on Sunday, April 27 at 11:00 AM, on channel 10 in the Alpena area.

Law Day, first proclaimed by President Eisenhower in 1958, is an ideal way for lawyers and judges to educate their communities about the legal system and the necessity of having respect for the law and working within the legal framework to change bad law.

The local bar association in Alpena County is also sponsoring a 2008 Law Day Essay Contest for high school students, with scholarship prizes for the winners. A courtroom ceremony to honor the prize recipients is scheduled for 3:30 PM on May 1 at the Alpena County Courthouse.

The national Law Day theme for 2008 is The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity.

Gillard, Bauer, Mazrum, Florip, Smigelski & Gulden is proud to support Law Day and the efforts of its attorneys to educate students about the rule of law.
